Kyra

Kyra didn’t remember how she got outside. She and Zac had made a quick exit, barely stopping to say goodbye to anyone before spilling into the cool night air. It did nothing to chill her hot, needy flesh. She was overly conscious of Zac beside her, his scent a sinful mix of male and musky desire. It triggered a primal response deep in Kyra’s belly. Her nipples were twin points of painful pleasure, her sex creamy with wetness, a hollow ache craving fulfillment.

She hadn’t intended to invite Zac home with her. Not at the start of the evening anyway. But once the words were out of her mouth, Kyra knew that was exactly what she wanted—needed—to do.

All of those things he’d talked about doing. Wicked, wanton acts. Kyra wanted all of it. More.

Inviting him to take her home had unraveled something inside of her. She had unleashed her restraint and now the tension of waiting skipped across her skin. It vibrated through Zac’s frame, the unequivocal need to do those things he promised. It rippled in unspoken words, caressing and teasing.

The short walk to Kyra’s car culminated in an implosion of pressure, and Zac grabbed at her, or maybe she grabbed him... Whatever. Their mouths met in a clash of lips and teeth and tongues. Kyra let out a moan when Zac yanked her up hard against his body. She sunk into him, letting his weight push her back against the car. The bumper dug into her hip, but she didn’t care. She wriggled her fingers under his shirt, seeking a naked band of skin. Just to touch. Her skin smoldered wherever his fingers flitted, and she leaned into him, her legs threatening to give way.

Not that she would have fallen. Zac held her fast, controlling the kiss. Controlling her. His tongue swept her mouth, soft and gentle, eating at her lips, then hard, demanding her to follow. Kyra’s head spun. Desire. Need. Want.

Want. She wanted him. She pressed closer, furrowing her fingers through his hair, dizzy with kissing and not breathing.

“Get away from her, you human piece of shit,” a deep voice growled from the darkness.

Kyra sprang away from Zac, only his grasp stopping her from bruising herself against the car. Zac sheltered her from view as he turned to face their assailant. Assailants, she corrected. Three animals and one human. Kyra raised her face to sniff at the air, letting their scent wash over her tongue.

She recognized this smell. She’d scented it last night, while she’d been alone in her apartment.

Alarm and anger skittered down her spine.

They were all shifters. The one in human form stalked toward them, while the two lions slinked to either side, cutting off any escape routes. A drizzle of fear slid like ice down Kyra’s spine. A bear lumbered behind the human, a giant Kodiak, five foot tall at the shoulders.

“I was going to get you to deliver a warning to your father, but kissing a human… Now you’ve handed me a reason to kill you,” the rogue shifter drawled.
